Basal soil respiration in land use and cover systems in a caatinga enclaves moist forest

چکیده

Deforestation and the disorderly exploitation of natural resources for agricultural expansion occurred at an accelerated pace in Brejo microregion state Paraíba, Brazil, which resulted abandonment erosion soil a large part region. In view this scenario, present study was undertaken to investigate respiration systems involving different forms land use cover caatinga enclaves moist forests (Brejo de Altitude areas). The conducted four systems, namely, pasture, mandala agriculture, agroforestry system, forest. Microbial activity estimated by quantifying carbon dioxide (CO2) released process, from surface, captured KOH solution. Soil temperature (°C) water content (%) were monitored simultaneously with analysis respiration. have direct effect on metabolic organisms, climatic factors such as moisture influence dynamics organic matter decomposition and, consequently, release CO2. production CO2 is higher night than during day, regardless analyzed systems. Among evaluated areas, forest showed lowest emissions, so it considered receptor contrast pasture area, functioned emitter. Management techniques that reduce surface increase should be prioritized promote biota.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal mycelial respiration in a moist tropical forest.

*Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are widespread in tropical forests and represent a major sink of photosynthate, yet their contribution to soil respiration in such ecosystems remains unknown. *Using in-growth mesocosms we measured AMF mycelial respiration in two separate experiments: (1) an experiment in a semi-evergreen moist tropical forest, and (2) an experiment with 6-m-tall Pseudobombax...

An analysis of forest land use, forest land cover and change at policy-relevant scales

Quantifying the amount of forest and change in the amount of forest are key to ensure that appropriate management practices and policies are in place to maintain the array of ecosystem services provided by forests. There are a range of analytical techniques and data available to estimate these forest parameters, however, not all ‘forest’ is the same and various components of change have been pr...

Influences of land-use change and edges on soil respiration in a managed forest landscape, WI, USA

A critical issue in landscape ecology is to understand the effects of disturbances on landscape processes. While there is increasing interest in examining the ecological consequences associated with changes in landscape structure and composition, little is known about how soil respiration across landscapes might be affected within this context. We examined field-season soil respiration rates (S...

Land-use poverty traps identified in shifting cultivation systems shape long-term tropical forest cover.

In this article we illustrate how fine-grained longitudinal analyses of land holding and land use among forest peasant households in an Amazonian village can enrich our understanding of the poverty/land cover nexus. We examine the dynamic links in shifting cultivation systems among asset poverty, land use, and land cover in a community where poverty is persistent and primary forests have been r...

Soil Microbial Biomass, Basal Respiration and Enzyme Activity of Main Forest Types in the Qinling Mountains

Different forest types exert essential impacts on soil physical-chemical characteristics by dominant tree species producing diverse litters and root exudates, thereby further regulating size and activity of soil microbial communities. However, the study accuracy is usually restricted by differences in climate, soil type and forest age. Our objective is to precisely quantify soil microbial bioma...
